Welcome to the 2018 Open University of Hong Kong MBA Networking Event and Discussion Panel

This will be an intimate forum to hear and engage with industry representatives and MBA students, with time to ask questions and network with the panel. The panel discussion will focus on issues affecting various elements of international business, including career journeys of experienced industry representatives, future-proofing careers and business, and challenges/disruptions to current business models.

Meet the Panel Members

Mr Gerard Bradley | Queensland Treasury Corporation

Over 35 years of experience in public sector leadership and administration including some 16 years as Under Treasurer and Under Secretary of Queensland Treasury and the South Australian Department of Treasury and Finance. Substantial Board experience, including 10 years as Chair of QSuper, and a wide range of directorships of major Government financial and commercial corporations.  Since 2012, worked in non-executive director roles in the public and private sectors. 

​Mr Daniel Capper | UQ Careers

Daniel's value proposition is equipping others with personal and educational tools that allow them to excel in multiple areas of their lives, connect with people who can support their journey and motivate individuals to believe in and value themselves. Daniel Capper heads the Careers Service at the University of Queensland. He is the National President of NAGCAS - National Association of Graduate Career Advisory Services in addition to previously holding the elected roles of State President (QLD/NT) and National Professional Development Coordinator for the association. He is also the Institutional Representative for the AAGE - Australian Association of Graduate Employers (since 2007). Daniel holds Master degrees in Business, Arts and Applied Economics as well as a Bachelor of Science. He is internationally trained in coaching and mentoring and uses his skills to assist a number of Charity organisations to develop their visions and implement efficient processes. This interest has led to board positions with the Palliative Care Committee at the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane and with the Youth Empowerment Services (YES) foundation.

Mr Josh Chalmers | PricewaterhouseCoopers

Josh leads the PwC Audit and Risk Management Practice in Queensland. Josh helps his clients understand and manage their critical risks. He specialises in delivering practical advice using risk to improve the performance of critical operations and projects. Josh also leads PwC’s Project Assurance service across Australia and, as a qualified project professional, he provides advice to Boards and Executive teams on their largest and most
complex transformation projects. He is a Fellow of the Certified Practicing Accountants of Australia holds bachelor degrees in Accounting and IT along with various professional qualifications and certifications in Risk Management, ICT and Project Delivery. He is a qualified ICT Audit and Risk Professional. Josh’s clients in recent years include a variety of large organisations with Queensland based operations including BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Origin Energy, Aurizon, Tatts, Billabong, Energex, CUA, Bank of Queensland, QSuper, Queensland Treasury and other government departments and statutory authorities.

Ms Joey Chan | Hong Kong Australia Business Association QLD Chapter

With a breadth of experience in a variety of industries, Joey has established herself as a connector and opportunity maker.  She combines strategic and creative thinking in problem-solving while having a strong focus on people and purpose. Her background in law and finance has set a firm foundation of discipline and business acumen. And the roles of marketing, sales and filmmaking has inspired her to reclaim her artistic passions and nurtured a more creative mindset. Joey is led by her purpose of being a catalyst for change by connecting people, projects and ideas so that together they can make a greater positive impact.  In this digitalised environment, she believes in the power of in-person human connection and generously gives time to build on her relationships. Joey values authenticity, empathy, trust, boldness, and integrity. She's passionate about storytelling and aspires to produce content that encourages deeper empathy and human connection. Her Chinese heritage and fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin has been advantageous in cross-cultural business development and consulting on cultural sensitivities in doing business with China. With the goal of creating a more inclusive and diverse community, she has worked on marketing campaigns and events that promote international trade, business opportunities and partnerships.

Ms Karina Collins | BDO Australia

Karina is the national lead for BDO’s consultancy division. She works with clients to develop strategies and solutions for complex business challenges and has a background in innovation, technology and transformation. Most recently Karina has worked in areas of ICT Procurement and Transformation, Digital Transformation and Data Analytics & Insights, including strategies for Data-driven Public Policy development. Karina also sits on multiple boards in the Professional Services, Health, Not for Profit and Social Sectors. Karina is also an Advisory Partner and Board Member of BDO. BDO has a strong and proud reputation for delivering outcomes for clients and are known in the marketplace for making a difference through their unique approach to managing projects with bespoke methodologies. 

Mr Christopher Edwards | Building Queensland

Chris is currently a senior executive at the Queensland State Government (Australia) undertaking the role of Program and Projects Director – Building Queensland where his strategic leadership, governance, assurance, business analytical knowledge and engineering management guides the development of AU$40b in infrastructure investment.  Achievements in major resource and infrastructure projects throughout Australia has allowed Chris to apply his knowledge and experience to the challenges now faced by many professional Boards in monitoring and evaluating the degree of success associated with risk and audit processes, the setting of strategic organisational objectives aligned to the organisation's purpose. He has also played a significant part in working with management of organisations in developing plans and supporting the implementation and execution of specific strategic plans. Chris has previously worked as a Director for both PwC and Hatch which has provided him with an extensive network within the resources industry, infrastructure, environment & planning, legal, banking and government. Highly credible MBA focusing on international business and strategy with strong communication skills who demonstrate an ability to provide leadership and adapt to increasing levels of complexity and responsibility. A Graduate of both the Project Management Institute (PMP, PMI-RMP, PMI-PBA) and the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Chris has secured a solid foundation upon which he has built a network of proficient contacts and demonstrated a commitment to continuing professional education in the field of non-executive directorship, risk, quality assurance and organisational program management. Chris is married with three children.  He is a keen softball player and coach having achieved several coaching premierships. 

Ms Lisa Jenkinson | KPMG Qld

Lisa is the Head of Innovation for KPMG Qld, part of the national KPMG Innovate team that delivers innovation consulting services to clients.  Over recent years Lisa has delivered several accelerator programs specifically designed to bring together key major resource sector corporates and scale-ups to accelerate growth, drive greater collaboration and innovation across the sector – KPMG Energise (2015 & 2016) and Igniting METS Accelerator (2017).  These programs have been designed with a dual focus in that there are two streams of activity – a scale-up stream, designed to help scale-ups accelerate their growth and gain greater traction with resource sector corporates; and a corporate stream, designed to deliver a series of masterclasses on corporate innovation, encourage collaboration with peers (both internally to the organisation and potentially also with competitors) to develop innovation capability and culture, as well as identify innovative, real-world solutions to opportunities and challenges through facilitated engagement with participating scale-ups. Prior to KPMG, Lisa spent the past decade within the technology innovation and commercialisation spectrum, working with founders of startups and young ASX listed companies to commercialise energy storage and solar thermal technologies as well as commercialise disruptive business models in energy retailing.

Mr Bharath Krishnan | Accenture

Bharath (BK) leads the Futures Cities practice for Accenture in Australia and New Zealand. His passion lies in developing strategies to develop "Future Cities" - a complex ecosystem that ranges from sustainable energy usage, innovation and economic development, digital inclusion, social issues such as homelessness, and efficient city operations. Typical projects for Bharath include Strategy and Operating Model definitions, Digital strategy definition, Define Business Transformation initiatives, Programme design and development, Operational due-diligence, Enterprise and Business Architectures. His experience spans client engagements across UK, Asia and Australia. Recently, he is spending a lot of his time on the concept of “Data Convergence” in the civic domain, Digital infrastructure and the connect to economic outcomes and unlocking the funding conundrum for Smart Cities.

Mr Sam Pavin | iLab UQ

Currently the Marketing Lead for ilab UQ, the startup space and accelerator program at The University of Queensland, a Brand Strategist and Director at Samuel Pavin Group, helping businesses of all sizes grow and expand their business and marketing strategy and a brand ambassador and influencer for some major brands (Hootsuite, Postplanner, Huawei). Sam comes with a wealth of experience, started in sales in the corporate world (BNP Paribas group), in France, continued with business partnerships at European level in the UK and followed by marketing, later on, back in Paris, France. Sam also delved into intrapreneurship and is a Founding member of the IBM Global Entrepreneur initiative for startups, built from scratch in France and led for 5 years and resulting into 130+ startups directly onboarded, millions in revenue on year 5 and positioning IBM as a full-fledged member and partner of the French startup ecosystem. Then moving on to Australia, he held roles as CMO in a couple of startups while consulting at the international level. Now striving to grow the Australian startup ecosystem with UQ and beyond!
