Building leadership for change through school immersion - خبرات

The University of Queensland's Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education (UQ-ICTE) is collaborating with the Ministry of Education, Saudi Arabia to deliver the Building Leadership for Change through School Immersion (or Khebrat خبرات) program in 2018.

UQ-ICTE currently has 25 English language teachers participating in the specialised one-year immersion program in Brisbane, Australia that includes three key phases:

  1. English language training
  2. Technical skills development
  3. School Immersion

The Ministry of Education has selected the 'best of the best' to participate in the program and to act as change agents for the education system by transferring what they have learned through their experience at UQ-ICTE to their local teaching context in Saudi Arabia.

Deputy Director, Phillip Fredericks and Academic Manager, Paul Forster being welcomed by Saudi Minister of Education, Dr Ahmed bin Mohammad Al-Issa

As part of UQ-ICTE's delivery of the Building Leadership for Change Program, Deputy Director, Phillip Fredericks and Academic Manager, Paul Forster were invited by the National Center for Educational Professional Development (NCEPD) within the Ministry of Education to present at the First Forum on Educational Professional Development in Riyadh from 22-24 April 2018.

Mr Fredericks and Mr Forster presented on behalf of UQ-ICTE including a paper on the importance of program operations and logistics - 'Logistics Matters Matter' - and a workshop on 'Building a Culture of Digitally Literate Practitioners'.

"This was a very important opportunity for UQ-ICTE to share its knowledge and experience, and contribute to the transformation of the educational system in Saudi Arabia" said Mr Fredericks.

The Khebrat program is an ambitious long-term endeavour to transform the knowledge, skills and attitudes of Saudi teachers through a university-guided immersion in K-12 schools. The program is high on the development agenda of the Saudi government, and is guided by Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Plan.
