Learn in the best environment

UQ teaching and learning spaces are recognised as international benchmarks for excellence and innovation.

ICTE-UQ  is housed in a purpose-built facility with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities that maximise opportunities for active learning and interaction.

Our building is designed to let in natural light with floor-to-ceiling windows and looks onto beautiful gardens and surrounding mountains.

Over 200 staff members assist more than 2,500 students every year to achieve their English language goals here.

The ICTE-UQ building ranked #1 in the world

in the 2016 i-graduate English Language Barometer survey

Formal learning

Our English class sizes are small - no more than 18 students per class.  You will be engaged in close communication with your teacher and dynamic work in pairs and groups.

Teachers use a wide range of resources to cater to personal learning goals and styles and all classrooms are equipped with internet and data projectors.

Students also have access to great break-out spaces in the building and outside.

We tailor custom programs to suit the needs of the group and can include guest presenters from industry and academia speaking in small lecture theatres or up to 200 in our auditorium.

Study facilities

Learning Centre and libraries

The ICTE-UQ Learning Centre provides a quiet place to study, a student lounge and group work area, and is home to a wide range of English language learning materials for you to borrow.  Resources include books, magazines, newspapers, journals, CDs and DVDs, and IELTS preparation materials.

You can take advantage of the resources of the UQ Library.  UQ Library has one of the largest academic collections in Australia and the largest in Queensland.  Two large UQ libraries are located near our building and provide a wide range of modern study spaces for independent and group study.

Digital learning facilities

You will also have access to:

  • computer stations in class and in the foyer of the building and hundreds of computers at UQ Libraries
  • engaging and interactive online learning activities - your teacher will direct you to activities and exercise that match your course, class level and learning needs
  • wi-fi access across campus and 50GB per month.

Self-directed learning

We support active learning with lots of opportunities to enjoy speaking English and socialising with other students, as well as work at your own pace privately online.

We organise daily activities such as sport, conversation clubs and trips to amazing places in and around Brisbane, and much more.  As an ICTE-UQ student you have access to the world-class facilities available on campus, including sport, art and music performances and public lectures.

You will reinforce and extend classwork with richly interactive online lessons on ICTE-UQ learning platforms.
