Things you need to do in your first week to set yourself up.

Get your student card

If we haven't got your photo already, we will take your photo on your first day for your student card.

Your student card is important because you need it to:

  • borrow from the Learning Centre and use UQ Libraries
  • book ICTE activities
  • access services for students on campus.

Login to UQ wi-fi

Use your UQ username and password to login to wi-fi or computers on campus.  You have been sent an email with your UQ student number and link to set your password.  See Reception if you do not have this information.

To login to wi-fi: 

  1. go to where available networks are listed on your device
  2. select Eduroam 
  3. enter your username as where 's' is followed by the first 7 digits of your 8 digit student number
  4. enter your password. 

Password reset

If you have forgotten your password or been issued with a new one, then reset your password online.


Set up health insurance app

OSCH app on phoneOn your first day, we will show you how to download the Allianz Overseas Student Health Cover App. This app is your electronic membership card and you can use it to:

  • update your personal details
  • submit a claim
  • locate your nearest direct-billing doctor
  • contact the 24-hour helpline
  • find translations of medical terms.

Open an Australian bank account

If you need a local bank account, visit a bank branch on campus. Please note many banks offer accounts for international students with no withdrawal of account fees.

Find your way around The University of Queensland easily

UQ Maps website will make finding your way around campus a walk in the Great Court. Based on Google Maps, the web application will help you find buildings by number and name. The search function can help you find food and retail outlets, banks and ATMs, plus accessible facilities, study spots, and more.
