  Book your accommodation

If you would like to stay in an ICTE homestay, please make a booking at least two weeks prior to your arrival (as per UQ Style Guide).

For other accommodation options, visit UQ Accommodation Services.

Connecting to the internet at UQ

You will be sent an email with the subject line UQ username activation around 3 weeks before your course starts. Follow the steps in the email to create your password and set up your free internet account.

You will then be able to login to wi-fi on campus. You will get 50GB per month free and unmetered access to the UQ domain.

What to pack

Laptop

Bridging English students must bring a 25cm+ laptop with a physical keyboard and Google Chrome installed. 

We recommend all other students bring a laptop and install Google Chrome . 

  • valid passport (leave a copy at home)
  • student visa information 
  • essential medication (and prescription) 
  • prescription for glasses and a spare pair of glasses
  • multiple forms of identification
  • bank account details from home country
  • adaptor (230 volts AC)
  • travel sickness medication
  • an umbrella.

During your flight, you will receive an incoming passenger card.  It is important that you declare any food, spices, plants, medicines, animal or wood products or cash worth AUD$10,000 or more.  If you are unsure please check what you can't take into Australia

Money matters

See our expenses guide to estimate your living costs. If you will be staying in rental accommodation, ensure you have arranged funds for your bond (equivalent to 4 weeks rent), connection to utilities and furniture.

 

  Apply for a visa

If you are studying for more than three months you may require a student visa. Once you have received your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE), you can apply for a Student Visa at your nearest Australian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission.

If you do not require a student visa, you will need to apply for another type of visa, such as a visitor visa. Find out more about visas to study in Australia.

  Book airport pick-up

If you would like an airport pick-up email homestay@icte.uq.edu.au to book your transfer at least one week before arrival. Otherwise, see our advice about getting around in Brisbane.

  UQ Package Students- Airport Transfer

If you are a UQ package student, combining a UQ program and an English language course, book your airport transfer online once your accommodation has been arranged. Bookings can be made up to three days prior to departure. Contact accommodation@uq.edu.au if you have any queries or do not receive your confirmation email after booking.
