  Book your accommodation

To stay with a Homestay family, make a booking at least 2 weeks prior to your arrival to be sure of a place.

For other accommodation, visit UQ Accommodation Services as soon as possible.

Start your UQ internet access

You will be sent an email with the subject line UQ username activation around 3 weeks before your course starts. Follow the steps in the email to create your password and set up your free internet account.

You will then be able to login to wi-fi on campus. You will get 50GB per month free and unmetered access to the UQ domain.

Pack essentials

Laptop

Bridging English students must bring a 25cm+ laptop with a physical keyboard and Google Chrome installed. 

We recommend all other students bring a laptop and install Google Chrome . 

  • valid passport (leave a copy at home)
  • Student Visa information 
  • essential medication (and prescription) 
  • prescription for glasses and a spare pair of glasses
  • forms of identification
  • bank account details from home country
  • adaptor (230 volts AC)
  • an umbrella.

On your flight, you must complete an incoming passenger card.  Ensure you declare any food, spices, plants, medicines, animal or wood products or cash worth AUD$10,000 or more.  Unsure? Find out more about what you can't take into Australia

Bring enough money

See our expenses guide to estimate your costs. If you will be staying in rental accommodation, ensure you have arranged funds for your bond (4 weeks rent), connection to utilities and furniture.

 

  Apply for a visa

If you are studying for more than 3 months you may require a Student Visa. Otherwise, you may wish to consider a Visitor Visa. Find out more about visas to study in Australia.

  Book airport pick-up, if desired

If you would like to be picked up from the airport email homestay@icte.uq.edu.au to book your airport pick-up for a fee at least a week before arriving. Otherwise, see our advice about getting around in Brisbane.

  Apply for your student visa

Now that you have received your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE), apply for a Student Visa at your nearest Australian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission.

  Book airport pick-up, if desired

If you have been made a package offer combining a UQ program and an English language course, book your airport transfer online once your accommodation has been arranged. Bookings can be made up to 3 days prior to departure and will be free or at low-cost, depending on the distance to be travelled. Contact arrival@uq.edu.au if you have any queries or do not receive your confirmation email.

  Questions about your UQ study

You can ask questions about studying at UQ online, over the phone or via a representative. You can also contact current UQ students from your country.

Delayed arrival

If you are unable to start on the date in your offer letter, email the ICTE-UQ Admissions team, admissions@icte.uq.edu.au, with your name, student number, proposed arrival date, and reason for late arrival.  The new commencement date must be no later than the Monday of the second week of class.  An exact date of commencement must be agreed with us.  Late arrivals for the Bridging English Program will not be accepted.
