Garry Austin has been a TESOL language teacher and teacher trainer at the Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education at The University of Queensland (UQ-ICTE) since 1996.

Mr Austin has wide experience in English and Methodology for TESOL Purposes (EMTP) and immersion programs, both at UQ-ICTE and in Shanghai and Hong Kong. He also has experience as a program convenor at a Hong Kong-based program for in-service teachers.

He has taught adults from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and language levels and has taken a particular interest in the advancement of English teaching in Asian classrooms since 2001. He played a leading role in establishing and teaching a Secondary School Preparation program in a Brisbane private school and has lectured at tertiary level in TESOL Methodology, Second Language Acquisition, and Sociolinguistics.

Mr Austin currently works mostly as a teacher trainer for EMTP programs for educators at all levels. He has a strong interest in the Pearl River delta having lived in Hong Kong for two years. He is currently completing a Master of Development Practice degree paying close attention to the academic and literacy challenges international students face in their tertiary studies.
