Garry Austin has been a TESOL language teacher and teacher trainer at the Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education at The University of Queensland (ICTE) since 1996.

Mr Austin has wide experience in English and Methodology for TESOL Purposes (EMTP) and immersion programs, both at ICTE and in Shanghai and Hong Kong. He also has experience as a program convenor at a Hong Kong-based program for in-service teachers.

He has taught adults from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and language levels and has taken a particular interest in the advancement of English teaching in Asian classrooms since 2001. He played a leading role in establishing and teaching a Secondary School Preparation program in a Brisbane private school and has lectured at tertiary level in TESOL Methodology, Second Language Acquisition, and Sociolinguistics.

Mr Austin currently works mostly as a teacher trainer for EMTP programs for educators at all levels. He has a strong interest in the Pearl River delta having lived in Hong Kong for two years. He is currently completing a Master of Development Practice degree paying close attention to the academic and literacy challenges international students face in their tertiary studies.
