Student services

Our Student Services team are here to help from your first contact, to your graduation and beyond.
Make the most of your time in Australia with our wide range of support and activities.

When you arrive

Airport reception

Make your arrival easy -  book airport reception.  We'll meet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation.  Alternatively, you can take a taxi or a train.

Accommodation services

Let us place you with a friendly, local Homestay family.  We make sure your Homestay home is comfortable and convenient. Our Homestay is also one of the cheapest ways to live in Brisbane.

You can choose to stay with your Homestay family for a short time or your whole course. If you want to live in a share house or apartment in the long-term, Homestay provides you with a base to find the right place to live. UQ can help you find rental accommodation in Brisbane when you are ready.

Our Activities Officer will make sure you can enjoy Brisbane with your new friends with trips on weekends and between sessions.

Health and well-being

Help to adjust and progress

Our Student Services team are here to help you with any questions or concerns.  If you feel too homesick or stressed to study, or have a question about anything, come and see us.

Your teacher will build your confidence in class and can meet you outside of class to talk about your progress and what to do next with your studies.

We offer workshops to help you adjust to Australian life, get a job and pursue further study.

Healthy and safe at The University of Queensland (UQ)

students relaxing under trees in the UQ Lakes precinct You can call security or first aid anytime at UQ St Lucia on one phone number or through a handy mobile app, and a security officer will respond immediately.

If you need to see a doctor, you can visit the UQ Health Service, an accredited general practice providing comprehensive and confidential health services for students.  The UQ Health Service 'direct-bills' our preferred provider, Allianz, which means as long as you are covered by Allianz, you will not see a bill or have to make a claim for seeing a doctor.  You generally only pay for medications or immunisation.

UQ St Lucia also has a pharmacy (chemist or drugstore) and a dental clinic that offers student discounts.

Our students enjoy great weather, green spaces to relax outside class, and can get out and be active in sport, at the gym, or cycling or jogging on pathways that stretch from UQ around Brisbane.

Health insurance

We can arrange health insurance for Student Visa holders with our preferred provider, Allianz Global Assistance. If you are studying on a Visitor, Tourist, Working Holiday or another visa, we recommend that you purchase private health and travel insurance.
