This course is the best way to prepare for an academic English test and gain practical academic skills and language. You will get experience attending lectures, note-taking, writing extended essays, reading academic texts, giving presentations and participating in group discussions.
This course will enable you to:
- express facts, ideas and opinions in writing, using correct and appropriate vocabulary, grammatical structures and other features of academic writing
- apply a range of reading skills in order to understand and respond to a variety of written texts
- speak clearly and confidently
- understand spoken English in conversations, discussions, lectures and to take notes
- use a range of study skills including research skills, in order to gather, combine and critically examine information and ideas from different sources
- apply the skills and language studied to the IELTS test.

Entry requirements
English for Academic Purposes is offered at three entry points - IELTS 5.0, 5.5 or 6.0 (or recognised equivalent). Click here to find out more.

Length
5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 weeks in 5-week blocks. Students usually study for 10 weeks at each course level.

Hours
Full-time: 20 hours per week in class.
You will be placed in a morning or afternoon class.
Morning: 8.15am-12:45pm
Afternoon: 1pm - 5.30pm

Maximum 18 students
Laptop
We recommend that you bring your own laptop.
Assessment
Your teachers will provide informal feedback throughout the course. Formal tests on speaking, writing, reading and listening are held at the end of every 5-week session. Read more about assessment and certification.
