Why study General English (GE)?

It also provides a base for further study for your university journey or to advance onto business English to improve your career prospects.  

General English will enable you to:

  • use English for everyday occasions such as discussing the news, travel and sharing opinions 
  • communicate with native and non-native English speakers
  • expand your vocabulary
  • speak more clearly, fluently and accurately
  • understand news, movies and websites without translation or captions
  • write emails and informal notes.

Course details

Level

Basic to advanced. We will give you a simple test on your first day in our Brisbane campus to work out the best class for you.  You do not need an IELTS or any other test score for entry to this course.

Length

5 - 45 weeks in 5-week sessions. Students usually study for 10 weeks at each course level. If you already know your English level and what you want to achieve, work out how long you may need to study English to reach your goal.

Hours

Full-time: 20 hours per week in class, 5 hours per week on tasks outside of class.

You will be placed in a morning or afternoon class.

Morning: 8.15am - 12:45pm
Afternoon: 1pm - 5.30pm

Class size

Up to 18 students

Laptop

We recommend that you bring your own laptop.

Testing

Your teachers will provide informal feedback throughout the course. Formal tests on speaking, writing, reading and listening are held at the end of every 5-week session. Read more about assessment and certification.
