About the course

Gatton English for Academic Communication at UQ Gatton is a free course for all UQ students from a non-English speaking background who require help with their English language skills.

Classes focus on academic English language skills.  Depending on student needs, the following language areas can be covered:

  • sentence expansion and connections
  • paragraph construction
  • process and logical order
  • classification of information/interpretation of data
  • descriptive writing - style and appropriateness
  • reasons, results and consequences
  • summary writing and paraphrasing
  • presenting a written argument
  • analysis of grammatical problems and terminology
  • grammatical organisation and punctuation
  • grammar relevant to academic English
  • examination skills: understanding examination questions and learning and revision techniques.


EAC is delivered at UQ Gatton subject to sufficient enrolments.  The course venue will be emailed to you prior to course commencement.


Classes are run every Thursday morning for 6 weeks from  9am - 1pm.  All classes include a break.
