About the course

The English for Academic Communication : Postgraduate Law course aims to enhance the communication skills of international students who are enrolled in postgraduate legal studies at UQ.

This course is for students undertaking Fundamentals of the Common Law (LAWS7936) and focuses on improving oral and written communication skills through topics relevant to students' studies.

Sample workshop topics include:

  • essay writing
  • voice in assignment writing
  • evaluative versus descriptive writing
  • sentence and paragraph structure
  • summary writing and paraphrasing
  • avoiding plagiarism
  • short oral presentations with feedback
  • analysis of past assignments for the Fundamentals of the Common Law course.

Semester 2, 2017 details

All classes are held in the Sir Llew Edwards Building, Building 14 - see directions. You will be sent your room number by email before classes start.
