You are more likely to succeed at your studies if you settle into accommodation soon after arriving.  If you have to move address more than once, studying will be more difficult.

Tips for renting

If you want to stay in a share house or apartment, consider these things:

  • Travel time - How far away is the house or apartment from UQ?  Check travel time by entering the address and University of Queensland into this Journey Planner.
  • Cost – Don’t pay too much - expect to pay around $150 per week for a private room in a share house or $350/week for a 2 bedroom share apartment.
  • Is the lease fair?  You can take the lease to UQ Accommodation Services to check that it is fair or select a property from the UQ Accommodation Services website.
  • Visit the property – before signing anything, visit the property to see it for yourself.
