Why JEMTP online?
Joint English & Methodology for TESOL Purposes (JEMTP) is a 3-week professional development course designed for in-service English language teachers at primary, secondary or tertiary levels who have a language background other than English. It enables teachers to enhance their own English language skills, and gain insights into innovative teaching methodologies appropriate for teaching English to learners.

The program is a mixed nationality professional development program open to individual or small group enrolments with class sizes between 16-18 participants.
The training is delivered live, online by qualified and experienced teacher-trainers utilising the latest digital technologies such as Zoom, Padlet, and Flipgrid. Participants will have access to a range of virtual social activities outside of class, and opportunities to network with teachers from other countries.
The program focuses on:
- adapting and utilising English language learning tasks to facilitate active learning
- sharing teaching materials with colleagues and reflecting on task design for active learning
- using and analysing online tools for interactive, educational purposes
- evaluating and reflecting on the effectiveness of these tools and strategies for online and face-to-face teaching
- developing English fluency in speaking and listening skills.
JEMTP participants receive the equivalent of 20 hours of tuition per week, including individual and small group feedback, led by highly qualified and experienced teacher-trainers.
The program is designed to develop participants’ communicative competence in English and teaching skills for primary and secondary in both face-to-face and online TESOL contexts.
To achieve this, participants will:
- learn from demonstrations by experienced teacher-trainers with participants talking, listening, thinking and reflecting on teaching and learning* in an interactive live online environment
- analyse, evaluate and adapt textbooks and other teaching materials
- learn, apply and practise new techniques to facilitate active learning
- use synchronous and asynchronous learning tools
- share teaching ideas and receive meaningful feedback from peers and experienced trainers.

Timetable: from Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 3.15pm (including breaks) - Brisbane time (AEST)
Classes are limited to 18 participants per class.
