Promoting services exports from Indonesia
Location: Pre-course workshops in Bogor, Indonesia, 2 weeks training in Australia
The ‘Services Exports Course' program aimed to enhance participants’ abilities to identify and promote Indonesia’s services exports. Indonesia has significant potential to export a range of services but to date has not exploited this potential to a significant extent. The course assisted key staff from Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade them better understand options for supporting the private sector in realising opportunities to export services’ products.
The ‘Services Exports Course' program was delivered to 25 participants - 19 from the Ministry of Trade and six from the National Board for the Placement and Protection of Overseas Workers; the Indonesian Services Dialogue; the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration; Indonesia’s Professional Certification Authority; and, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. The course covered four learning objectives that aimed to enable participants to:
- understand the targets and strategies for promoting Indonesia’s services exports
- develop stakeholders’ engagement and market entry strategies and action plans to support the promotion of priority services sectors
- develop a monitoring and evaluation plan to review progress of the action plan (SIPP)
- prepare a strategy paper for MoT management including recommendations (short, medium and long-term) on promotion of trade in services exports.
Participants worked in groups to develop Sector Identification and Promotion Plans (SIPPs), which were targeted at key services with export potential, specifically in:
- spa services
- medical services
- engineering (construction) services
- specialty design services
- architectural services
- IT services.
